One of the greatest problems that the world is facing today is
environmental pollution which is causing grave and irreparable damage to
the earth. Use of synthetic products is one of the major causes of the
pollution. Global consumer demand for eco-friendly products is increasing
mainly because of awareness of environmental pollution and its harmful
impacts. Jute is be used as an eco-friendly substitute of synthetics.
Diversified jute products are becoming more and more valuable to the
consumer today. Among these are espadrilles, floor coverings, home
textiles, high performance technical textiles, geotextiles, composites,
and more. Jute Yarn is used in weaving, knitting, manufacturing sewing
thread and in |

many useful purposes.
Jute is a natural fibre with golden and silky shine and hence called
“The Golden Fibre”. It is one of nature's strongest vegetable fibres.
Jute is the cheapest vegetable fibre procured from the bust or skin of the
plant's stem and the second most important vegetable fibre after cotton,
in terms of usage, global consumption, production, and availability. Jute
fibre is 100% bio-degradable and recyclable, and thus environmentally
friendly. Jute is used in raw materials for packaging, textiles,
non-textile, construction, and agricultural sectors. It is used in making
best quality industrial yarn, fabric, net, and sacks. Jute has good
insulating and antistatic properties low thermal conductivity and moderate
moisture regain.
The strong threads made from jute fibre are used worldwide in sackcloth -
and help sustain the livelihoods of millions of small farmers. During the
Industrial Revolution, jute yarn largely replaced flax and hemp fibres in
sackcloth. Today, sacking still makes up the bulk of manufactured jute
products. Jute has the ability to be blended with other fibers, both
synthetic and natural, and accepts cellulosic dye classes such as natural,
basic, vat, sulfur, reactive, and pigment dyes. Jute’s biodegradable
nature is suitable for the storage of food materials, where synthetics
would be unsuitable.Jute bag has gained an advantage as being an
eco-friendly option instead of poly and paper bags as polybag are made
from petroleum and are non-biodegradable and manufacturing paper bags
requires large quantities of wood. Jute has none of these problems and is
used widely. It is also used for making fashion and promotional bags.
Due to the eco-friendly and biodegradable characteristics of jute, it is
safe to say it will continue to keep its global presence. Jute is the
“fiber for the future’. Increase use of this versatile fibre surely
will help us to make the world livable for each and everyone on earth by
reducing environmental pollution. |
